LICK MATS

What are the lick mats made from?
Our lick mats are made from certified food-grade, non-toxic, 100% silicone and are BPA free.

What is enrichment?
Enrichment involves creating new opportunities or items for horses to explore and enjoy. Encouraging natural behaviours through enrichment can help make horses happier and healthier!

How durable are the lick mats?
Although our lick mats are very durable, this enrichment activity requires supervision. For safety, remove the mat when your horse is finished with it and check it regularly for damage.

Can I put the lick mat in the freezer?
Yes, our lick mats are freezer-friendly, so you can freeze treats on them.

What spreads can I use on the lick mat?
This enrichment offers endless variety by using different spreads. You can use any horse safe food your horse likes. Please remember to keep any food requirements or sensitivities in mind when selecting products for your lick mat. Do your research and start with small amounts. Consult your horse's veterinarian or equine nutritionist if you have any questions or concerns.

How do I clean my lick mat?
You should wash or rinse off your lick mat after every use. Remove your carabiners if you are cleaning it in the dishwasher.

Silicone staining
We haven’t had any problems with our lick mats staining permanently but because silicone is a porous material, the natural dyes found in highly pigmented foods may sometimes cause discolouration. To help avoid staining, we recommend rinsing/washing after each use. For more stubborn stains, we have found the dishwasher does the trick and our mats have come out looking brand new. If you are still unable to lighten stains, there are some natural remedies online using baking soda or vinegar mixed with water that have proven effective for silicone products.

Will the lick mat help calm my horse?
Research suggests licking can be an effective way to promote calmness in horses by tapping into their natural instincts for relaxation as it encourages salivation, licking and movement of the jaw. Our lick mats and the material presented on this website have been designed to provide information and inspiration to horse carers but never to take the place of veterinary or hands-on behavioural advice.

COTTON ROPE REINS

What size are your reins?
We love the feeling of a thicker rein. Rein Diameter is roughly 14mm

What are they made from?
100% pure cotton rope. Our 100% cotton rope is softer than blended varieties.

Colour & design.
Despite every effort to provide accurate images of each product’s colour and design, actual colours and design may vary due to the handmade nature of our rope reins, batches of dye, different device screen settings and the lighting at photography locations. We embrace individuality as a beautiful aspect of our designs, however if you are not happy with your product please see our Returns Policy.

How do I clean them?
Releasing the shackle pin will allow you to remove your carabiners before washing. Cotton rope can be treated like cotton clothing. Hand or machine wash. If you machine wash, put your reins in a pillowcase or mesh laundry bag on a gentle wash 30ºc. Higher temperatures will shrink cotton. Colder water also helps prevent bleeding and fading of colours. Line dry preferably out of the sun. Cotton ropes air-dry in a couple of days (depending on ambient temperature and humidity).

How do I store them?
Natural rope is typically resistant to UV light and heat but to keep your rope reins in prime condition you should aim to store them in a dark, cool, dry place. Cotton rope will mildew if allowed to remain wet over an extended period of time.

How do I replace my swivel carabiners?
Although our hardware is strong and should last many years with proper use and care, accidents happen. We understand how frustrating it can be if a clip breaks and it’s not easy to replace. For that reason we have designed our reins so that it is easy to replace your hardware. Your rope reins have a bow shackle with a pin. Simply remove the pin to release the swivel carabiner and change or replace your carabiner.

HARDWARE

How do I look after the brass hardware?
We have chosen brass for its strength and durability. Brass is a great metal for outdoor applications but it will oxidise as it ages. The change to blue-green isn't a sign of decay. We love the natural ageing process of brass and think it adds character to our products. Simply wipe with a soft damp cloth regularly to keep clean. You can use a mild mix of washing up liquid and warm water to wipe the surface clean. Dry thoroughly. If you prefer your hardware to remain shiny, you can purchase brass cleaner at your local hardware store.
